YOGA IN
AFRICA
1x48 minutes |
 |
Yoga’s underlying premise is that once we still the
restless mind and body, we experience the love and peace
that is our true, essential nature. When practiced in
its entirety, yoga leads one to the deep understanding
of the universality of consciousness.
As it offers a tangible means of attaining not only
internal harmony, but also harmony with the world and
its maker, yoga provides an antidote to feelings of
fear, prejudice and separation that often result in
crime, social disharmony and war.
Since true yogis premise their lives on a deep love and
reverence for all beings they are frequently involved in
compassionate service projects and strive to live
consciously with regards to other people and the planet.
In this programme we take an in-depth look at the
origins and spiritual significance of yoga, as well as
its practice and application in Africa.
Aiming to demystify commonly held perceptions of yoga as
just a health and fitness modality, we show that it is a
sacred ancient science integrating body, mind and
spirit.
We also look at yoga in the context of challenges facing
Africa such as HIV / AIDS, Tuberculosis, Disability,
Crime Rehabilitation and Social and National
Reconstruction.
Yoga provides a cheap, safe and effective means to
realise our full physical, mental and spiritual
potential. While yoga results in a measurable
improvement of pain and disease, its deeper philosophy
teaches one how to eliminate suffering, irrespective of
one’s physical condition.
Central to yogic teaching is the art of remaining
skilfully centred and joyful amidst all of life’s
challenges, physical or otherwise. |
